About

Researcher, teacher and builder

I work where community knowledge, computing research and practical systems meet.

I am a Computer Scientist, ICT4D researcher and lecturer at the University for Development Studies in Tamale, Ghana. My work focuses on information systems that fit the needs, knowledge and communication practices of the people who use them.

I combine participatory research, teaching and software development to explore how technologies, from radio and mobile phones to AI, can contribute to sustainable development. This means treating communities as knowledgeable participants in design, not simply as recipients of a finished technology. It also means paying attention to language, literacy, infrastructure, institutions and the systems people already trust.

I completed a PhD in Computer Science at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam in 2026. My dissertation, From Radio to AI: African Community-driven Development of Sustainable Information Systems, brings together work on climate information, local-language voice services, radio, Internet inclusion and AI. It develops and applies the ICT4D Plug-In Principle as a way to learn from communities and improve the systems they already use.

At the University for Development Studies, I teach and contribute to computing education while continuing research on ICT4D, Human-Computer Interaction, responsible AI and digital inclusion. Academic exchange with colleagues in Europe and Africa has also shaped my work, including teaching at the University of Turin and Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam and contributions to Digital Humanism initiatives.

Software development is part of the same practice. I build education, publishing, data and media systems, and I bring the discipline of implementation back into research and teaching. The goal is not technology for its own sake. It is technology that can be understood, evaluated and made useful in its real context.

Outside this work, I enjoy science fiction and fantasy, games and exploring new technologies.
