Internet inclusion through AI and local-language voice access in rural Ghana.

TIBaLLi explored how people in rural Ghana could gain more useful access to Internet information through AI and local-language voice technologies. The work began with participatory engagement rather than assuming that a conventional web interface would fit local needs.

My role combined research leadership, system thinking and collaboration. The project connected community knowledge, Dagbani language resources and practical interface design. It was supported by an Internet Society Foundation research grant awarded in 2022.

The funded period is complete. Its lasting contribution is a grounded account of how AI can support inclusion when language, literacy, connectivity and cultural context are treated as design requirements rather than afterthoughts.
